Veterans Service Officers

Vietnam Veterans of America, California State Council (CSC), operates a Veteran Service Officer (VSO) program in California. These highly trained Veteran Service Officers interview, advise, and otherwise assist, all veterans, and their families, in understanding and obtaining the benefits to which they are entitled. Specifically, the VSO guides veterans through the complex processes and forms needed to establish and/or validate their rights to veterans’ benefits. Such benefits include, but are not limited to, pensions, education, insurance, hospitalization, home loans, outpatient medical care and burial. Our VSOs are located in key California locations.

The California State Council VSO Program has a goal. That is, to assist all veterans, and their families, in securing the benefits to which they are entitled. We do this by helping veterans navigate through the complexities of the VA, and by providing oversight so that their claims do not become casualties of the system. Although our program is supported and run by Vietnam Veterans, we serve veterans of all eras.

In those cases where the Veterans Administration denies a veteran’s eligibility for a valid claim, contests, or attempts to reduce, a veteran’s valid benefits award, our VSOs advocate on the veteran’s behalf. Such advocacy is in the form of spearheading the appeals process and, as appropriate, preparing veterans for their appearances before the VA Appeals Board.

VSOs develop individualized service plans for each veteran. These plans provide clients with access to critical social services and may include referrals to other, outside, resources.
